The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) is looking for candidates to run and promote a new sanctioned Australian Rallycross Championship.

CAMS has invited candidates interested in organising the new championship to submit a formal expression of interest by 5pm AEST on Friday August 14.

Expressions of interest will be required to outline the championship’s format, commercial and financial plans.

“The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) is now calling for expressions of interest to identify a candidate interested in acting as the official and exclusive agent of CAMS for the organisation and promotion of the Australian RallyCross Championship, with a view to concluding a multi-year agreement on terms to be agreed,” read a CAMS statement.

“The selection process is open to all candidates capable of conducting such a role for CAMS and the promotion of this Championship.

“Interested candidates are invited to register a formal expression of interest with CAMS by 5p.m. AEST, Friday 14 August 2015.”

The news comes after CAMS reorganised the Australian motorsport landscape following its recent review.

The proposed championship is separate from Bob Watson’s Victorian state level Rallycross Australia series and the newly formed Extreme Rallycross Championship.

Rallycross Australia was forced to shelve its plans last month after Motorcycling Victoria prohibited the use of the Broadford Park venue for rallycross.

Meanwhile, the Extreme Rallycross Championship, run by Gold Coast businessman David Ridden, is due to begin at Queensland’s Lakeside Raceway on September 4-5.

The championship announced renowned rally ace Alister McRae as its first competitor earlier this month.
